Woman sought in shooting injury of man

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office is searching for a woman believed to have shot and seriously injured a man during an argument late Monday on Walton Street in New Iberia.

The Sheriff’s Office did not release the victim’s name, identifying him only as a 48-year-old male.

Deputies arrived about midnight Monday to find he had been shot in the stomach, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. He underwent surgery and is listed in serious condition.

Detectives are searching for a woman believed to have been the shooter, but the Sheriff’s Office had no identifying information.

Armed robber steals cash, cigarettes

LAFAYETTE — Authorities are searching for an armed robber who demanded money and menthol cigarettes Monday night from a North University Avenue convenience store.

The pistol-wielding robber, described as a black man wearing a blue sweatshirt and black-and-red shorts, ran from the Cracker Barrel store at 1303 N. University Ave. about 10 p.m., said Cpl. Paul Mouton, Lafayette Police Department spokesman.

The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and three packs of Kool cigarettes, Mouton said. No injuries were reported.

Four booked on drug-related counts

The manager of a Jennings novelty smoke shop and three other people have been arrested on drug-related counts following a raid at the business and several homes, The Associated Press reported.

Matt Brucchaus, manager of Blaze Smoke Shop, and Tyler Mitchell were arrested on distribution of marijuana. Brucchaus also was booked on operating a disorderly business.

Also arrested were Kelsey Chapman, on possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of a firearm, and Cade Broussard, on distribution of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police Chief Todd D’Albor said authorities seized marijuana and other items used for smoking marijuana during the raids.
