A 27-year-old bicyclist on Wednesday remained in critical condition after she was struck from behind by a car traveling east on Fournerat Road in Acadia Parish on Tuesday, officials said.

Jessica Randol was airlifted by medical personnel to a Lafayette hospital following the accident, in which a woman driving east struck Randol, knocking her into a ditch with the bicycle on top of her, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Maxine Trahan said.

The driver was not identified or cited in the accident, which occurred in the 1100 block of Fournerat Road near Johnson Highway about 8 a.m., Trahan said in a news release.

Trahan said Randol, of Iota, was in an intensive care unit at a hospital Wednesday in critical condition.

Lafayette man dies in motorcycle accident

A Lafayette man riding a motorcycle was killed Wednesday when a pickup truck merged in front of him as they both headed south on Interstate 49 in St. Landry Parish, State Police said.

Donald Royer, 67, was riding a Harley-Davidson near milepost 14 when Willie Smith, 62, of Church Point, merged his truck in front of Royer and he lost control while trying to stop the motorcycle, Master Trooper Brooks David said in a news release.

Royer was wearing a helmet but died of his injuries at a hospital. Impairment is not thought to be a factor in the crash, David said.

State Police plan to file charges against Smith, though the crash is still under investigation, David said.

Man wanted by police in unlawful entry

Lafayette police are looking for a 22-year-old man suspected of entering and damaging an apartment that is not his, officials said.

Detectives believe Javon Carrier got into the apartment under false pretenses before he started damaging one of the rooms, Cpl. Paul Mouton said.

Carrier is wanted on a warrant for unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lafayette police or Crime Stoppers at (337) 232-TIPS.

Teen boy arrested as home invasion suspect

Acadia Parish authorities early Wednesday arrested a teenage boy in a suspected home invasion. Rayne police officers captured the teen when he reportedly tried to enter another home that was not his, officials said.

Deputies were called about 8 a.m. about a home invasion on the Interstate 10 service road near Rayne. The homeowner said the teen broke into the home then left after a brief fight, Sheriff Wayne Melancon said in a news release.

The teen, who was not identified because of his age, was later located at a home in the 9200 block of Roberts Cove Road as he tried to get away from Rayne officers, Melancon said.

The suspect surrendered peacefully to Rayne police, who turned him over to sheriff’s officials.

Charges are pending.

Scam artist trying to bilk businesses

Crowley authorities are looking for a scam artist who they say is calling businesses claiming to be a police detective who needs credit card information from the businesses, officials said.

Police Chief K.P. Gibson said the caller, whose phone number is blocked, claims to be a detective with the police department’s fraud unit.

Gibson said the attempt to fraudulently get financial information is a felony, and detectives are working to identify the person.

“Detectives will not call over the phone for sensitive information, especially credit card numbers,” Gibson said in a news release Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish, which is offering a $1,000 reward, at (337) 789-8477.
