A 21-year-old Eunice man arrested Thursday is accused of shooting into the ceiling of a bank he had just robbed on North Second Street.

Authorities captured Benjamin D. Guillory a few blocks from St. Landry Bank, which he entered at 9:11 a.m. with a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun, demanding cash from a teller, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.

Police arrested Guillory within three minutes of the emergency call reporting the robbery, Fontenot said.

The handgun, along with the clothes Guillory had been wearing, were recovered along a walking trail that led police to Guillory and the stolen cash in an alley, Fontenot said.

Investigators were still interviewing witnesses on Thursday afternoon, while Guillory remained in holding awaiting interrogation before he’s booked, Fontenot said.
