St. Landry Parish officials have arrested two coaches at Plaisance Elementary and three students after younger students were beaten with a belt as a form of discipline, KATC is reporting.

The adults are identified as Mona Wilson and Keidrick Charles Owens. The two coaches are accused of malfeasance in office and encouraging/contributing to child delinquency, the Lafayette television station is reporting.

Wilson was also accused of obstruction of justice.

The three arrested students are either 13 or 14 years old. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says the coaches instructed older students to whip the younger students for disciplinary purposes so they didn’t have to discipline them.
