Officials said a 35-year-old man was shot and injured early Tuesday morning as he drove in Amelia.

Deputies responding to reports of gunshots fired near Bailey’s and Westside Park Lanes found the victim nearby on Lake Palourde Road with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his back, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the victim was turning from Bailey’s Lane onto Lake Palourde Road when someone fired shots at the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office said. The shooting was reported around 1:07 a.m.

Additional deputies will patrol the Amelia area after gunfire was later heard in the Friendship Alley area after the first shooting. No injuries or damage were reported, the Sheriff’s Office said.
