A Lafayette man died at an area hospital early Friday morning in a fatal shooting that’s led to another man’s arrest in the crime, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Terrell Batiste, 36, also of Lafayette, is accused of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in the shooting death of 32-year-old Dextel George, police said in a news release.
Police arrested Batiste around 9:45 a.m. at his mother’s home on Pearl Street, the release states.
Investigators learned Batiste had been waiting inside a house in the 300 block of Josephine Street when George and a friend arrived at the home around 5:30 a.m. and demanded that Batiste leave, and an argument ensued, according to the release.
Police found George inside the home suffering from a single gunshot wound in his side, the release stated. Batiste had fled the scene on foot.
The investigation remains ongoing.
