A manhunt is under way in Evangeline Parish for a jail escapee suspected in a Tuesday morning bank robbery in Vidrine.

State Police, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office are searching for Brian Keith Soileau, 42, who escaped from the Pine Prairie Detention Center on Oct. 13, according to a State Police news release.

State Police said Soileau is believed to have robbed the Guaranty Bank in Vidrine at 9:18 a.m. Tuesday.

Soileau was serving time on an aggravated burglary charge and other pending charges, according to the release.

Soileau is believed to be driving a tan Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck, possibly a step side, with a flat tan cover over the bed of the truck, according to State Police.

He was last seen traveling west on La. 10 from La. 13, State Police said in the release. Soileau is believed to be armed and dangerous.

A call to the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office was not returned Tuesday.

KATC TV-3 has reported that Soileau was arrested on counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal use of weapons, resisting an officer by force, theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated burglary, theft of a firearm and criminal damage to property in connection with the August robbery of Citizen’s Bank in Pine Prairie.

Soileau is also suspected of trying to use a backhoe to steal an ATM about two weeks before the August robbery, KATC reported.
