One dead, another injured in shooting
NEW IBERIA — A person was shot and killed and another injured early Friday in New Iberia, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found two victims inside a car around 12:30 a.m., one of whom was already dead, KATC-TV reported.
The victims were found in the 400 block of Anderson Street. The surviving driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment, although the person’s condition is unknown at this point, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Woman accused of arson in Lafayette
A St. Martinville woman arrested Thursday is accused of breaking a window to an occupied Lafayette home and setting it ablaze by tossing a lighted rag into the house.
Drucieta Gail Carmouche, 45, is accused of simple arson in the June 11 fire in the 100 block of North Pine Street, according to a Lafayette Fire Department news release.
Carmouche and the homeowner had an argument that day, and a witness later watched her set fire to the man’s house when he wasn’t home, the news release states. The fire caused minor damage to the home’s interior after smoldering for a while in the kitchen area.
Reward offered in kick-in burglaries
KAPLAN — A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those involved in three kick-in burglaries at homes south of Kaplan in which a large amount of cash, jewelry and valuables were stolen, Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said.
The burglaries happened Thursday between 10 a.m. and noon within a mile of each other on LA 335, Couvillon said in a news release.
The burglars — Couvillon said it’s believed more than one person was involved — gained entry into the homes by kicking in the back doors.
Anyone who lives in or was traveling in the area during that time and noticed something suspicious or out of the ordinary is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office criminal investigations division at (337) 898-4403.
