Two men were being questioned Monday afternoon after a stray bullet pierced through the Department of Motor Vehicles office on the Interstate 49 service road in Lafayette.
One of the men is suspected to have fired multiple shots at a man driving away from an apartment complex behind the DMV building, Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said. A bullet struck the DMV building and entered someone’s office.
The two men taken into custody were involved in a disturbance with the man in the vehicle at the corner of Vaucluse Drive and Loire Avenue, Mouton said.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office and Louisiana State Police detained several people, including witnesses, before Lafayette Police arrived on scene and took over the investigation, Mouton said.
No injuries were reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
