State Police are investigating a crash on La. 14 east of Abbeville in Vermilion Parish that killed an elderly man from Erath.
Whitney Walker, 82, died from his injuries after he stopped his Ford F150 at the intersection of Grosse Isle Road and La. 14 and was struck by an oncoming, Master Trooper Brooks David said.
Walker was pronounced dead at Abbeville General Hospital. A passenger in Walker’s truck, who was not identified, suffered moderate injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, David said in a release.
The crash occurred at 2 p.m. Thursday as Walker was driving south on Grosse Isle Road, stopped at the La. 14 intersection then proceeded through the intersection.
Walker’s Ford was struck on the driver’s side by a westbound Ford 350 driven by Bryan Domingue, 40, of Scott.
Domingue, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Abbeville General with moderate injuries.
Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash, David said, though toxicology samples were sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
