NEW IBERIA — A New Iberia man died Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on La. 674 at Blanchard Road, State Police said in a news release.

The crash occurred about 5 p.m. when Luis Villanseno-Martinez, 31, lost control of his 2003 Ford Focus and drove into the path of a 2006 Kia Amanti, driven by Shirleen Aucoin, 70, the release said.

Villansenor-Martinez was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

Aucoin was wearing her seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.  

She was transported to Iberia General Hospital for treatment, the release said.

Man, 31, drowns swimming off beach

CYPREMORT POINT — A 31-year-old Iberia Parish man drowned Saturday while swimming about 200 yards off the beach, according to the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office received a call about a possible drowning shortly after 5 p.m. The man’s body was recovered about 7:30 p.m.

The man’s identity had not been released as of Monday afternoon.

Police seek suspect in church van theft

RAYNE — The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office said it is searching for a Rayne man who allegedly stole a church van before stealing from a convenience store.

Jonathan Glenn Regan, 33, stole a van belonging to Destiny of Faith Christian Center in Lafayette on Saturday, the release said.

Regan then returned to Acadia Parish, where he stole a paper box and money from a convenience store in the Egan area, the release said.

Warrants for felony theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle have been issued for Regan’s arrest.

He also has outstanding warrants for theft in the parish, the release said.
