Intruders break man’s jaw, fire guns into home

EUNICE — Two Eunice teenagers arrested on Tuesday are accused of forcing their way into a man’s home, beating him and firing several rounds into the house where two other people and a pregnant woman were inside, according to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Darius Kain Bruno Bazile, 19, of 200 Mallet Road, and Isaiah Bradley, 17, of 421 Cotton St., are accused of being among a group that beat a man so severely that he was hospitalized with a broken jaw, collapsed lung and fractured eye socket, the Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release.

Bazile and Bradley are accused of brandishing guns when they forced their way into the victim’s home around 2 a.m. Tuesday and beating him before leaving and firing weapons into the house, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Both are also accused of stealing cell phones from the four people inside the house.

Bazile and Bradley were each booked on four counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree feticide, the Sheriff’s Office said.

They also were booked on counts of home invasion and aggravated second-degree battery.

The Sheriff’s Office said more arrests are expected.

Two Scott firefighters injured in house fire

Two firefighters were injured battling a house fire in Scott sparked by a lightning strike.

Two teens asleep in the home at the time escaped unharmed, said Scott Fire Chief Chad Sonnier.

One firefighter was treated at the scene for burns, and another was transported to a local hospital for heat exhaustion. Both are expected to be OK, Sonnier told KATC-TV.

Two teens were home when the fire started shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sonnier said. They were able to escape unharmed, he said. The house was a total loss.

The teens were asleep and were awakened by lightning strikes around the home, he said. They smelled something burning and called their parents, who told them to get out of the house. Their father arrived, saw smoke coming from the attic, and called 911.

Witnesses told investigators that lightning struck the house about 15 minutes before the fire began.

When firefighters arrived they found heavy black smoke coming from the attic of the two-story home. They tried to get to the fire but had to leave because of heavy smoke and extreme heat, and at that time the roof and second story began to collapse, Sonnier said.

A ladder truck from the Lafayette Fire Department arrived and helped extinguish the fire, Sonnier said.
