Lafayette Police arrested 31-year-old Douglas Johnson in the Tuesday night beating death of a woman inside an apartment on North Meyers Drive, according to a news release.

Johnson and the 35-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been released, were involved in a relationship and had met near Interstate 10 and Ambassador Caffery Parkway, the release said.

The two then drove to the apartment on North Meyers Drive in the victim’s vehicle. Investigators believe that Johnson struck the woman multiple times in the head with a blunt object during a disturbance inside the apartment, the release said.

Police arrived at the apartment about 10 p.m. and Johnson was taken into custody without incident, the release said.

Johnson was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of second-degree murder, the release said.
