Federal and Texas authorities on Tuesday arrested a registered sex offender from Crowley on allegations he molested a young girl in Acadia Parish about a year-and-a-half after he was released from prison on a sex offense.
Lance Barton, 56, who had been living on Timber Ridge Drive in Dayton, Texas, was released from a state prison in Louisiana in December 2013 after serving eight years of what began as a 25-year sentence in 2010 that stemmed from a 2005 sex crime against a minor, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Barton’s initial 25-year sentence was overturned in 2011, and then state District Judge Edward Rubin sentenced him to seven-and-a-half years’ hard labor after he pleaded no contest to molestation of a juvenile in October 2013, the Sheriff’s Office said. Because he was given credit for time served, Barton was released from jail two months later.
Barton is awaiting extradition to Acadia Parish at the Chambers Country Sheriff’s Office.
