CARENCRO — A 60-year-old man is accused of setting a mobile home and a pickup truck on fire in Carencro, then firing at three people Sunday as the fire spread to a second dwelling, officials said.
Michael Delcambre of Carencro was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on two counts of simple arson and three counts of aggravated assault, said Chad Sonnier, fire chief of the Scott Volunteer Fire Department. Scott fire personnel and trucks along with Carencro’s responded to the 10 a.m. blaze Sunday.
Delcambre allegedly set the fire in the 100 block of Reynosa Road by lighting a T-shirt and putting it in a middle room in the mobile home, Sonnier said.
The suspect remains in jail on bail of $175,000, according to Sheriff’s Office records.
Living in the mobile home were Jennifer Veronie and Kenneth Cormier Jr., who escaped the fire but lost all their possessions, Sonnier said.
Clothing for the pair — both men’s and women’s large or extra large sizes — can be dropped off at the Carencro station on Lions Club Road in Scott. Money contributions can be deposited via Rayne State Bank through account number 1296973.
