A Jeanerette man was killed just after midnight Monday in a single-vehicle crash on La. 674 in Iberia Parish, State Police said.

Donald Williams Jr., 32, was driving a Cadillac CTS west on La. 674 near Whitney Drive when he veered off the road, crashed into a mailbox and ditch embankment then came to rest in a parking lot, said Master Trooper Brooks David, State Police spokesman for Troop I.

Williams was not wearing a seat belt in the crash and was partially ejected from the car, David said, and later died at an area hospital.

It’s unknown whether impairment was a factor in the crash, which happened around 12:30 a.m., David said. A toxicology sample was submitted to the State Police crime lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
