A Rayne man was arrested early Tuesday after police investigating a hit-and-run found almost 2 ounces of marijuana in his car along with a digital scale, small plastic bags, cash and a PayPal card reader.

Andrew Kondert, 19, was booked on counts of hit-and-run driving, felony marijuana distribution, possession of drug paraphernalia and proceeds derived from drug offenses after officers searched his vehicle on Old Spanish Road, Scott Police Chief Chad Leger said in a news release.

Police were investigating an anonymous tip that a gray Volvo circled multiple times around the roundabout at La. 93 and St. Mary Street before exiting onto Apollo Road and striking a highway sign in the process, Leger said.

An officer found the car at 3:30 a.m. on Old Spanish Road with a flat tire and, while talking to Kondert, smelled marijuana in the car and noticed the passenger airbag had deployed, Leger said.

The officer searched the vehicle and found marijuana in the center console and a backpack in the trunk stuffed with 55 grams of weed, a PayPal card reader, a digital scale, 30 clear plastic bags, and $165 in small bills, Leger said.

Kondert remained in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on Tuesday afternoon without bond on the drug counts and a $1,000 bond on the hit-and-run driving count, according to booking records.
