A 32-year-old man died Tuesday after crashing a crop-duster plane into a tree in rural Acadia Parish.

The crash happened around 12:40 p.m. off U.S. 190 near Unatex Road, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Maxine Trahan said.

The man crashed on private property about 300-400 feet from the field he was fertilizing after he “clipped a few trees and crashed into a tree,” Trahan said.

The pilot died on the scene, she said.

The Basile Fire Department was first to respond after someone reported the crash and subsequent fire, Trahan said.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.
