A thief reportedly got away with a single mother’s Christmas gifts in a daytime burglary Thursday on Lebesque Road, KATC-TV reported.

The woman returned home around 5:30 p.m. to find her back door kicked in and the gifts for her niece and 1-year-old son missing, along with a TV, Nintendo Wii, iPad Mini, a class ring and a table with chairs, the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said. She left home that day at about 7:20 a.m.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

Video released on St. Mary truck burglary

CHARENTON — The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office on Thursday released high-quality surveillance video from a November burglary and is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

The criminal is seen on the Nov. 9 video using a hammer to break into a parked truck along the Charenton levee, stealing two iPods and a handgun, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Traci Landry said in a news release.

Avoyelles deputies investigating burglaries

Authorities are investigating two burglaries Tuesday in which a man is captured on surveillance video stealing booze and cigarettes from businesses in the Fifth Ward community outside of Marksville, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The thief used a brick to shatter the front doors of both businesses between midnight and 1 a.m. and stole large quantities of alcohol and 30 cartons of cigarettes, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was driving a white, full-sized, extended cab pickup truck with a black toolbox and chrome rims, and a woman was in the truck with him.

DWI checkpoint planned in Iberia Parish

NEW IBERIA — Deputies will conduct a sobriety checkpoint overnight Friday from 9 p.m. until 3 a.m., KATC-TV reported.

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office did not reveal the checkpoint’s location.

“As always, motorists should use a designated driver if they are planning on being out and consuming alcohol,” Sheriff Louis Ackal said.
