The Lafayette Parish School Board will receive updates on the number of school bus incidents in the current and past years following the recent resignation and drunken-driving investigation of a bus driver who had an accident last week with elementary school students on board.
At the 5:30 p.m. meeting Wednesday, Transportation Director Damon Evans will present information on safety training for drivers and background on prior incidents involving school bus drivers.
The board will accept several reports during the meeting, including a rundown of information provided last week to its finance committee on the projected budget shortfall for the 2015-16 school year and potential cuts to balance the budget.
The board could begin its budget discussions as soon as April 14 when it will review construction, food service and other accounts that aren’t tied to the general fund, which encompasses instructional and other school operations costs.
Also during Wednesday’s meeting, the board is expected to take action on approving an Internet service provider. The same decision was before the board last month; however, it decided to restart the application and selection because of concerns the advertisement process was unclear. LUS, which holds the contract for services, had failed to submit a proposal last month. Following the second round of applications and review, a committee evaluating the proposals made the same choice as last month: the Baton Rouge-based technology company DETEL.
