LAFAYETTE — The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce’s political action committee announced its endorsement of Lafayette Parish School Board incumbent Shelton Cobb on Wednesday.
Cobb is a candidate in the District 3 race and faces Elroy Broussard.
“Few members of the School Board have shown the courage Shelton Cobb demonstrates month after month,” said Empower PAC Chairman Frank Neuner in a news release.
He said Cobb’s “entire career has been devoted to educating and serving our community” and described him as a leader who doesn’t back down when it comes to putting students first.
Cobb, a retired educator with more than 35 years experience, said the chamber shares his vision for the school system to become an A-rated school system.
“As an educator, I know our district can do better,” Cobb said in a news release. “I refuse to sit quietly while our board strips funding away from the students who need it most.”
He said students deserve an excellent education regardless of where they live or what school they attend and that it’s time for the board to provide students and teachers with the support and resources they need to be successful.
“My involvement has always stemmed from my desire to help our children, and I’ll continue to work with parents, teachers, and community leaders to make our school system the best in the state,” Cobb said.
