LAFAYETTE — Registration remains open for the Lafayette Parish school system’s Pre-K3 classes at Alice Boucher and J.W. Faulk elementary schools.

As of Friday, 65 of the 80 spots in the program were taken, said Christine Duay, early childhood programs supervisor.

“We’re still taking applications and putting them on a list as we receive them,” Duay said.

Forty spots are available at each school and open to students who live in the respective zones.

Registration was held last week, following weeks of postponements while the School Board mulled whether to fund the Pre-K3 classes.

The classes had been funded by federal stimulus grants that expire this month.

Earlier this month, the board decided to keep the Pre-K3 program, but shifted 40 of the spots from Truman Montessori — where students from across the district may enroll — to Faulk.

The move targets the district’s two lowest-performing elementary schools: Boucher and Faulk.

Both schools are on the state’s academic watch list for performance scores at risk of not meeting increasing accountability standards.

The preschool program office is at the Vermilion Conference Center, 326 Gauthier Road.
