SLCC slates series of open houses
LAFAYETTE — South Louisiana Community College will hold a series of open houses on its campuses in the coming weeks to provide information about its academic programs and services.
Information on career services, applying for financial aid, the admissions process and enrolling for spring 2015 courses will be available.
The open house schedule is:
Oct. 13 — C.B. Coreil Campus in Ville Platte from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Oct. 20 — Evangeline Campus in St. Martinville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Oct. 20 — Gulf Area Campus in Abbeville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Oct. 20 — T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Oct. 23 — Franklin Campus from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Oct. 25 — Lafayette Campus in Devalcourt Building from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Oct. 27 — New Iberia Campus from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gumbo cook-off benefits United Way
BREAUX BRIDGE — St. Martin Hospital’s fourth annual Gumbo Cook-off to benefit United Way of Acadiana is Saturday at St. Martin Hospital, 210 Champagne Blvd., Breaux Bridge.
Admission is $5 and covers all-you-can-eat gumbo.
The family-friendly event features activities for children and an annual bake sale.
Gates open at 10:30 a.m., and the gumbo tasting is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with awards presented at 1:15 p.m.
The event also features live music with the LeBlanc Family Band performing from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; the Thibodeaux Family Band from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; and Jane Labbie and Friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
