Parental involvement seminar offered Friday
LAFAYETTE — Local attorney Curtis Hollinger will give a presentation on parental involvement at 6 p.m. Friday at Philadelphia Christian Church, 600 Fox Run Ave.
His presentation, “The Gospel of Parental Involvement,” will provide tips and resources for parents interested in helping their children succeed in school.
United Way Day of Action scheduled
LAFAYETTE — The United Way of Acadiana is mobilizing volunteers for its annual Day of Action on June 20.
The communitywide event aims to encourage residents to “create lasting change in education, earnings and essentials” by organizing volunteering events across Acadiana.
“United Way of Acadiana and its partners invite everyone to join the movement and be part of the change we all want to see in our communities, not just on one day but every day,” Keler Williams, director of volunteer mobilization, said in a press release.
Opportunities to volunteer include helping with a school supply and uniform drive, reading to children, assisting in putting on a field day to promote exercise and performing cleanup projects around the community.

Arts center to host art education training
LAFAYETTE — The Acadiana Center for the Arts is hosting a June 13-14 event for teachers on how to implement the arts in lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
The two-day event will show educators the ins and outs of the federally funded ArtTIME practicum. Aligned with Common Core and national arts standards, the practicum is designed for educators working in classroom or leadership positions.
