Northside High School’s new principal, Julia Williams, will share her vision for the school during a “Meet the Principal” open house Tuesday.
Williams moved into her role as principal April 27. She will share her plan for the school, which she initially pitched during her interview for the job.
For the past two years, Williams was an assistant principal at the school. She replaced Melinda Voorhies, who resigned in March.
Williams has said she plans to revamp the school’s intervention programs for those students who fall behind in their academic courses and also build student, parent and community relationships.
She holds master of education degrees in gifted education and educational leadership from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and began her career in the classroom as a high school math teacher. She was named 2011 Louisiana Teacher of the Year while teaching gifted education students at Lafayette High School.
Prior to becoming an assistant principal two years ago, she was a math lead teacher, working as a mentor and coach for math teachers across the district.
The open house will start at 6 p.m. at Northside High.
