A day after the topic led to a teacher's arrest at a Vermilion Parish School Board meeting, Superintendent Jerome Puyau spoke to The Acadiana Advocate on Tuesday about his new three-year contract and pay raise.

The board was meeting Monday night to discuss the contract for Puyau. The board approved the deal, which includes incentives for pay raises based on performance, KATC reported.

Following the approval of the contract, teacher Deisha Hargrave questioned the board about the contract before being told she was out of order.

When Hargrave continued to ask questions, an Abbeville city marshal removed her from the meeting and placed handcuffs on her as she was escorted from the building.

In the interview Tuesday, Puyau said he was advised not to talk about the arrest, instead referring questions to Board President Anthony Fontana.
