LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Alumni Association will honor eight students as the university’s outstanding graduates during commencement exercises planned Saturday at the Cajundome.

Deans from the university’s eight academic colleges nominate a student based on leadership, scholarship and service.

An overall outstanding graduate will be named by the Alumni Association during the university’s general assembly at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Cajundome.

This year’s outstanding graduates are listed below by college:

College of the Arts: Hannah Ray is a music major with a concentration in piano pedagogy with a 3.491 grade point average.

She is the daughter of James and Edie Ray, of Carencro. Following graduation, Ray plans to teach and apply for graduate school.

B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration: Madeleine Richard, a finance major with a 3.948 GPA, completed her degree in three and a half years, including a summer spent in Italy through the Study Abroad program.

Richard plans to pursue a graduate degree in economics.

She is the daughter of Gerard and Suzanne Richard, of Kaplan.

College of Education: Justin Breaux, an instrumental music education major with a 3.957 GPA, plans to pursue a master of music degree in conducting at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

His plans include working as a high school band director and later earning a doctoral degree in music education to become a university band director.

Breaux is the son of the late Becky Breaux, of Lafayette.

College of Engineering: Jennifer Osten is a petroleum engineering major with a 3.757 GPA who plans to work as a petroleum engineer.

She is the daughter of Earl and Holly Osten, of Crowley, and the mother of a 4-year-old daughter, Audrie Elizabeth.

College of General Studies: Kashia Vice is a general studies major and has maintained a 4.0 GPA.

Vice plans to attend the dental hygiene program at LSU and also has a goal to pursue her photography interest on a professional level.

She is the daughter of Donna and Kenneth Vice, of Youngsville.

College of Liberal Arts: Marka Johnson, a sociology major with a 3.79 GPA, plans to continue her education in social work at LSU and obtain an addiction counseling license in Louisiana.

Johnson, a member of the Louisiana National Guard, plans to use her skills to help soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

She is the mother of two daughters, Chloe Justice Stacks, 8, and Makayla Hope Johnson, 4.

College of Nursing and Allied Health Professionals: Alyssa Ledet, a nursing major with a 3.406 GPA, plans to work in a hospital in a critical care area after graduation.

Her goal is to become certified in a specialty area and attend graduate school to earn a doctorate in nursing practice.

Ledet is the daughter of Neal and Diana Ledet, of Lafayette.

Ray P. Authement College of Sciences: Megan Waterman is a biology major who completed her degree in three and a half years with a 3.93 GPA.

She plans to enroll in the master’s program in biology at the university and continue her softball career before enrolling in medical school.

Her goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon.

She is the daughter of Douglas and Theresa Waterman, of Ashburn, Va.
