The Lafayette Parish School System is asking parents with children who will enter kindergarten at Myrtle Place Elementary in August to call (337) 521-7111 so they can be informed of potential changes at the school.

The school system is considering phasing out classes taught in English in order to transform Myrtle Place Elementary into a full French immersion campus. If the plan is approved by the School Board, the phase-out would begin with incoming kindergarten students. Preliminary plans are for those nonimmersion students to enroll at Broadmoor Elementary or S.J. Montgomery Elementary, depending on the student’s address.

The plan does not affect those students already at Myrtle Place.

School system staff want parents to call the listed number so they can be contacted should the change be approved by the board.
