Fundraiser for injured teacher set for Sunday
Friends of Myrtle Place Elementary French immersion teacher Karine Ruatta have organized a fundraiser from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Blue Moon Saloon to help offset Ruatta’s expenses after she was critically injured in a car crash in Mexico this summer.
Donations will be accepted at the door for the event, which will feature five bands, food and a raffle.
The planned musical lineup includes:
2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m.: The Huval-Fuselier Trio
3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.: Sassafras Jubilee
5 p.m. to 6 p.m.: Marty Christian and friends
6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: French Choir Franco Fun
7 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Horace Trahan with Louis Michot.
Ruatta’s friends also have set up a Go Fund Me account, www.gofundme.com/ helpkarineandrobin, to help raise money for Ruatta and her son, Robin, who was with her at the time of the crash but was uninjured.
Nest-building class scheduled Saturday
Audubon Louisiana will host a free nest box-building workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Acadiana Park Nature Station, 1205 E. Alexander St., Lafayette. The workshop is intended for all ages, and birdwatchers and enthusiasts of all levels.
Attendees will learn about prothonotary warblers and will build their own nest box. All materials are provided. Children younger than 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
