LAFAYETTE — David Edmiston is the new director of alumni affairs at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

In his role, Edmiston also serves as the executive director of the Alumni Association.

Edmiston is a 1982 graduate of then-USL and previously worked in pharmaceutical sales for AstraZeneca and Bayer Healthcare, where he supervised sales consultants and managed more than 1,200 sales accounts, according to a news release.

Edmiston stated his first priority is an evaluation of the Alumni Association’s activities and programs.

“During our first meeting, I introduced a common practice I learned in pharmaceutical sales,” he stated in the release. “We call it, ‘Start, Stop, and Continue.’ What should we start doing, what should we stop doing and what should we continue? Those three questions will be vital during my tenure here.”

Edmiston’s ties to the university go back to his father, Hardy Edmiston, a 1952 graduate, who continued to support the university’s athletic and academic programs, according to the release.

“My father loved this university more than one can imagine,” David Edmiston stated. “It was his enthusiasm and support of UL-Lafayette that led me here as a student — and continues to inspire me today.”

His family continues to be tied to the university.

His wife, Gema Bunkley Edmiston, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from ULL in 1983.

Their son, Drew, was a kicker for the Ragin’ Cajuns football team and earned his degree in public relations in 2008.

Their daughter, Erin, is a senior in general studies and was named “Miss UL-Lafayette” in 2010.
