An Opelousas teen was killed in a two-vehicle crash with a school bus early Monday morning on La. 357 near Austin Road in St. Landry Parish.

Nonchalaunt Guillory, 17, was driving south on La. 357 in a 2000 Mazda car when she ran off the roadway and overcorrected her vehicle striking the right side of an oncoming school bus, said Louisiana State Police Trooper Stephen Hammons in a news release.

Guillory wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, Hammons said.

The bus driver, Lawrence Robert, 56, of Opelousas, was wearing a seat belt and received minor injuries, Hammons said. No children were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Hammons said it was unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology samples were taken for analysis by the State Police Crime Lab.
