LAFAYETTE — After 33 years in the public school system, the last five of which were spent at Comeaux High School, Comeaux head football coach Kevin Magee resigned Tuesday.
“It’s time,” Magee said.
Magee thought his decision through before making it official Tuesday.
“Probably the last three months I’ve been mulling over it,” Magee said. “It’s been 33 years in public schools. … Some opportunities came up in the private schools and it was the best thing to do for me and my family.”
Magee declined to elaborate on what that opportunity was.
“It’s probably a little bit early to say,” Magee said.
The Spartans start spring drills in a couple weeks, and Magee said his decision was made to allow the school time to find his replacement.
Magee will not be with the team during spring practice, but his assistants will remain in place.
“Some of the coaches that are on staff will handle it,” Magee said.
The Spartans went 3-7 last season, including a 1-6 mark in District 3-5A games.
