NATCHITOCHES — Three was a very good number for Acadiana area teams and individuals at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Cross Country meet Wednesday.

St. Thomas More claimed a third-place finish in the Class 4A girls race and two Carencro runners were third-place finishers on the final day of the two-day meet at Northwestern State.

The Cougars came in as the defending 4A champion. STM finished with 95 points to place third behind champion St. Michael the Archangel with 44 and Vandebilt Catholic at 83.

Carencro’s Chantaya Griffin led Lafayette area girls runners, thanks to her 4A race finish. She finished third with a three-mile time of 20 minutes, 13.82, a fraction of a second behind Lakeshore’s Haley Dean (20:13.55).

Kelnisha Castille placed 11th in 21:16.13 to lead St. Thomas More. Teurlings Catholic’s Lidia Alcala was 12th in 21:22.08.

Key Alfred of Carencro later picked up a third place in the 4A boys race in 17:19.87. Westgate’s Kolyn Saltzman was ninth in 17:49.73 with Teurlings’ Connor Meche 13th in 18:02.81.

Lafayette High’s Angelle Primeaux, Ethan Suire of Erath and New Iberia’s Madysin Girouard were the other top 10 finishers from the area. Primeaux placed sixth in the 5A girls race in 20:16.64, while Girouard was eighth in 20:17.56.

Suire finished 10th in the 3A boys race in 18:05.98, just ahead of Berwick’s Ian Valdez (18:06.04).
