SULPHUR — Third-seeded Plainview advanced to the Class C championship game with a 5-2 win over the seventh-seeded Northside Christian in a semifinal at the Fastpitch 56 state softball tournament at Frasch Park.

The loss kept the Northside Christian from advancing to the Class C title game for the second straight season..

In top of the first inning Northside Christian took a 1-0 lead. The Warriors got consecutive singles by Angel Allen and Zoie Hanagriff. Allen scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooke Stanford.

The Hornets tied it at 1 in the bottom of the second. Allie Willis’s RBI single scored Alex Harrison. The Hornets extended their lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning. Harrison and Willis scored the two runs

Northside Christian (12-7) looked to tie the game in the fifth. Kathryn Zaunbrecher reached on error to open the inning. Another error by Plainview on the next play put runners on first and second. Cydni Crozier’s sacrifice bunt scored Zaunbrecher as Northside Christian cut the deficit to 3-2.

Plainview (18-7) scored an insurance run in the fifth inning as an RBI double by Harrison scored Madison Pippen to make it 4-2.

The Hornets scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning.

Northside Christian’s Zera Hanagriff reached base on a double to open the seventh inning. Zaunbrecher was then hit by a pitch. A strikeout and two ground outs followed to end the game and any chance of a rally by Northside Christian.

Pippen was the winning pitcher for Plainview. She limited Northside Christian to three hits.

Emily Odom led Plainview by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Allen took the loss. She went 1-for-2 with a run scored.
