CARENCRO — With Teurlings Catholic and Carencro tied in the fourth quarter and Carencro backed up to a third-and-30, it appeared the Bears were looking to run the ball and gain just a few.

Instead, Tyriek Campbell broke a tackle and took it up field 71 yards to give Carencro a six-point lead over Teurlings.

Rebels quarterback Cole Kelley finished 21-of-33 for 295 yards and a touchdown — but on the ensuing possession, Kelly was picked off in the end zone by Kevin George.

Kelley had two interceptions and Carencro rushed for 416 yards as the Bears upset the Rebels 33-21. With the win, Carencro moved into a three-way tie for the District 4-4A championship with Teurlings and St. Thomas More.

Campbell finished with 28 carries for 237 yards and a touchdown. He also caught two passes for 11 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Gabe Duffy added 162 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The Rebels opened with a 14-0 lead. The very first play of the game saw Kelley hit Hayden Cantrelle with a 70-yard touchdown pass. The Rebels dominated the first half, but only had a 14-7 lead at the break.

The momentum switched when Teurlings was driving into the Carencro red zone and Kelley was picked off by Drakelle Harmon. Harmon took the interception 87 yards to tie the game at 14.

The Rebels regained the lead after a 14-yard touchdown run from Jaanzen Lormand. From there, Carencro scored 20 unanswered points.

In two separate short-yardage situations, Carencro’s Karl Randall was inserted at quarterback and both drives ended in touchdowns. The first, a 3-yard touchdown pass to Dilland Henry and the second, a 2-yard pass to Campbell, who made an amazing back shoulder grab and stayed in bounds.

Carencro’s Kordell Williams ended two Teurlings first-half drives when he stopped Kelley in the backfield on two fourth-down attempts.
