LAKE CHARLES — No. 2 Vermilion Catholic joined North Central in the Class 1A championship game with a convincing 57-46 victory against No. 6 White Castle on Tuesday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls’ Top 28 tournament at the Burton Coliseum.
The Eagles doubled White Castle on the scoreboard in the first half as they held a 26-13 lead at halftime.
White Castle went on a tear led by senior Skylar O’Bear, who finished with a game-high 25 points, in the third quarter that cut the deficit to eight points, but Vermilion Catholic stiffened defensively in the fourth. The Bulldogs got within five points.
But that’s as close as the Bulldogs would get, Vermillion Catholic scored six quick points midway through the fourth quarter to stretch their lead back to 11 and never looked back.
Vermillion Catholic will meet North Central in the state championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday in Burton Coliseum.
