LAKE CHARLES — In a rematch of the Class 5A championship game from a year ago, Scotlandville defeated Natchitoches Central 42-34 in the Boys Top 28 Tournament on Friday night at Burton Coliseum.
Scotlandville (30-4) was led by Most Outstanding Player Ja’Vonte Smart, who finished with 18 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Jordan Adebutu also added 11 points in the win.
Trailing 32-31 with 5:17 left in the game, Scotlandville ended the game on an 11-2 run. The Hornets held Natchitoches Central without a field goal in the final 5:17. The Chiefs lone points came on a pair of free throws by Danny Cohen with 26.5 seconds left.
Neither team led by more than three points until the final two minutes of the first half. Trailing 18-15, Natchitoches Central ended the first half on a 7-0 run. Marquis King’s 3-pointer at the buzzer gave the Chiefs a 22-18 lead headed into halftime.
Natchitoches Central was led by Austin Guy’s 10 points. Cohen finished with eight points and four rebounds.
