LAKE CHARLES — Top-seeded Summerfield never trailed as it defeated No. 4 Plainview 50-38 in the first Class C semifinal in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls Top 28 tournament Tuesday at Burton Coliseum.

Summerfield will play Pleasant Hill, which beat Epps 30-25 in the other semifinal, for the state championship at 4 p.m. Friday.

Summerfield freshman Marcedes Coleman led the Rebels with a double-double, recording 19 points and more than 11 rebounds.

Junior Nicole Bursey contributed 19 points to the win.

The Rebels (29-6) stifled Plainview’s offense, forcing 25 turnovers and limiting the Hornets to shooting less than 40 percent from the field.

PLEASANT HILL 30, EPPS 25: Samiah Scott’s and Laura Spann helped lead second-seeded Pleasant Hill to a victory over No. 6 Epps.

Scott gave the Eagles the lead with a layup at the 1:42 mark, and Spann added two free throws with 14.5 seconds left to help clinch the win.

Spann and Braylieh Brown each had eight points for PHHS (19-14).
