St. John (0-2) at Catholic-PC (0-2)

Last year: Did not play.

The buzz: Catholic-Pointe Coupee started 0-2 for the first time since the 2011 season, but its schedule hasn’t been an easy one, playing on the road against Ascension Catholic (in Donaldsonville) and Ascension Episcopal. The Hornets will open their home slate against a St. John team that allowed more than 450 rushing yards to Central Catholic in the season opener.

Ascension Episcopal (2-0) at Delcambre (0-2)

Last year: Did not play.

The buzz: Ascension Episcopal is looking for its first 3-0 start, and it’s got a good shot at making it happen this week. Delcambre’s going to need to put up more points than it has in its first two weeks — a 45-14 loss to Erath and a 10-0 loss to Hanson Memorial.

Beau Chene (2-0) at Port Barre (1-1)

Last year: Beau Chene won 14-13.

The buzz: After shutting out West St. Mary 23-0 in its opener, Beau Chene’s defense held Pine Prairie in check in a 26-8 win last week. Beau Chene will get to test its defense on the road against a Port Barre team coming off an 18-17 win against Sacred Heart Ville Platte.

Eunice (2-0) at St. Martinville (1-1)

Last year: Eunice won 28-12.

The buzz: Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats are off to a rocking start, winning their first two games by a combined score of 92-28. They’ll get a big challenge on the road this week against a St. Martinville team that is eager to put last week’s road loss to Assumption behind it.
