SAN MARCOS, Texas — Troi Swain scored 10 of her game-high 19 points in the first quarter and UL-Lafayette used a strong defensive effort to post a 65-58 win over Texas State on Saturday afternoon in the second half of their Sun Belt Conference Texas swing.
The Ragin’ Cajuns, who lost a 63-61 decision at Texas-Arlington on Thursday on two late free throws, held Texas State to 31 percent shooting in a win that leap-frogged the teams in the Sun Belt standings. The Cajuns (10-9, 5-2) won their fifth Sun Belt game in their past six outings.
Swain had a pair of 3-pointers in the first period, and her baskets started and ended a 9-0 Cajun run that gave UL-Lafayette the lead for good. The Cajuns led by as many as 14 points late in the third quarter and led by at least six points the rest of the way.
Nekia Jones added 18 points for the Cajuns, while Taeler Deer had 20 points to lead the Bobcats (12-7, 5-3), who had a five-game home win streak snapped.
