LAFAYETTE — The UL-Lafayette women’s basketball team accepted an invitation to play in the Women’s Basketball Invitational and will host a first-round matchup Thursday at 7 p.m. against Texas-Pan American at Earl K. Long Gymnasium.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (19-12) are playing in a postseason tournament for the first time since the 2005-06 season. With a win, the Cajuns would have their first 20-win campaign since that season.

Three Cajuns averaged in double figures in the regular season, with Keke Veal leading the way at 14.1.

UTPA (19-14) is led by guard Shawnte Goff, who averaged 15.1 points this season. The Broncs went 12-3 at home but only 4-9 on the road this season.

The WBI is in its sixth season. It is a four-round, 16-team tournament that takes place over a two-week span, and each game is played at a team’s home arena.

This will be the first meeting between the Cajuns and UT-Pan American.
