FULLERTON, Calif. — No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette split a pair of softball games to wrap up the Judi Garman Classic on Sunday, beating Fresno State 7-2 and falling 1-0 to No. 8 Baylor.
The Ragin' Cajuns (12-5) started the day with a five-run first inning against Fresno State (9-10). They loaded the bases with no one out, brought home a couple of runs on a fielder's choice and sacrifice fly and two more on Aeriyl Mass' double.
Eight Cajuns batters had a hit and Casey Dixon allowed just four hits in a complete game.
Against Baylor, UL-Lafayette had eight hits while starting pitcher Summer Ellyson allowed just four hits and faced two batters over the minimum in a complete game. But the Bears (11-3) got the game's only run in the second inning on Shelby McGlaun's solo home run.
The Cajuns go from coast to coast to start Sun Belt Conference play next weekend with a three-game set against Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina. The teams will play a Saturday doubleheader and a single game Sunday.
