LAFAYETTE — Defensive back Jeryl Brazil and defensive end Remaine Douglas will not return to the Louisiana-Lafayette football team next season, coach Mark Hudspeth confirmed Thursday.
Hudspeth delivered the news to both players in a meeting Wednesday afternoon.
“I have met with both Jeryl and Remaine and informed them that we are going in a different direction,” Hudspeth said. “I want to wish them well in their future endeavors.”
Brazil was also dismissed from the LSU football program after the 2013 season following three arrests in a three-month period.
He transferred to East Mississippi Community College.
In his lone season with the Cajuns, Brazil showed glimpses of his ability, most notably with a 100-yard kickoff return against Texas State.
But he also struggled to crack the lineup on defense. Thought to be a potential starter at cornerback before the team reported for preseason camp, Brazil quickly fell out of favor and did not play much in the second half of the season.
He finished his Cajuns career with four tackles and one quarterback hurry.
Douglas was also slated to play a big role with the Cajuns this season, but that role never materialized. He finished the season with 13 tackles and one sack in 12 games.
