Four UL-Lafayette football players — offensive linemen Daniel Quave and Mykhael Quave, defensive lineman Justin Hamilton and linebacker Dominque Tovell — were among 123 athletes from 76 universities named Monday to the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list.
Daniel Quave, a 6-foot-3, 324-pound senior, earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2013 after starting all 13 games at right guard and extending his streak to 39 consecutive starts. He helped pave the way for one of the top rushing attacks in the Sun Belt Conference while leading the Cajuns with 34 knockdown blocks.
Mykhael Quave, a 6-5, 295-pound junior, started all 13 games last season at left tackle and finished second on the team with 30 knockdown blocks. He extended his consecutive starting streak to 26 after starting all 13 games in 2012 at left guard.
Hamilton, a 6-2, 295-pound senior, led all defensive linemen for the Ragin’ Cajuns with 38 tackles with nine tackles for loss and team-high four sacks. He earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Tovell, a 6-2, 248-pound junior linebacker, finished second on the team with 67 tackles, with a team-high 12 stops for loss. Tovell added two sacks, forced two fumbles and broke up two passes.
