SAN MARCOS, Texas — Alex Stewart tossed a complete game shutout with a career-high 11 strikeouts to guide the No. 9 University of Louisiana at Lafayette softball team to a 4-0 win over Texas State on Sunday in the series finale at Bobcat Stadium.
Haley Hayden and Lexie Elkins each hit a solo home run in the first for the Cajuns (27-5, 12-3 Sun Belt. Shellie Landry added a two-run double in the seventh inning.
UL-Lafayette remains in a tie with UL-Monroe atop the Sun Belt standings.
Hayden has an on-base streak of 21 games; Landry has a 10-game hitting streak; and Elkins, who hit five homers in the series, has a nine-game hitting streak.
Stewart (6-0) earned two sins in the series, allowing two runs on six hits over 10 innings.
Randi Rupp (15-9) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks for Texas State (21-15, 6-5).
