Ole Miss LHP Christian Trent

RECORD/ERA: 9-0/2.37

YEAR: Sophomore

POSTSEASON: Trent remained unbeaten, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings in a clutch 2-1 regional win over Washington.

SCOUTING REPORT: Trent was scratched from an SEC tourney start with soreness but returned strong. His fastball is not overpowering but has great zone location (16 walks all season).

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco: “He’s been exactly what we hoped for. He’s consistent and he gets outs, and rarely gets himself into trouble.”

UL-Lafayette RHP Carson Baranik

Record/ERA: 11-1/3.27

YEAR: Junior

POSTSEASON: Baranik bounced back from a poor Sun Belt Conference tournament outing and shut down San Diego State, scattering six hits and two runs over seven innings in a 9-2 win.

SCOUTING REPORT: Command of three pitches is Baranik’s strong suit. He has enough power with a low 90s fastball, but a big-breaker curve is his out pitch, and he normally spots it well.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING: UL-Lafayette coach Tony Robichaux: “A lot of pitchers can throw strikes. Baranik can locate within the zone with all three pitches, and that is tough on hitters.”
