LAFAYETTE — The Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team has made a late addition to its 2016 slate, adding a mid-week road game against Houston May 11.
The game against Houston makes up for the Cajuns’ rained-out home contest against McNeese State April 20, which was not able to be made up because of scheduling conflicts.
The Cougars will make a return trip to M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field in 2017.
“It’s always important when you can get a quality opponent on your schedule,” said coach Tony Robichaux in a statement. “This is a good thing for two reasons. One, it gives us a chance to continue to protect our RPI, and two, it allows us to play another quality opponent in front of our fans next year.”
Houston is 22-16 entering Tuesday night’s game against Sam Houston State.
The Cajuns last traveled to play in Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park last season for the NCAA Houston regional, which they won to advance to the super regional round.
They beat Houston 2-1 in their second game of the regional despite picking up just two hits in the contest.
Both teams were also at the Houston College Classic this season, but the Cajuns and Cougars did not face each other.
