SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Louisiana-Lafayette baseball team launched a season-best four home runs in its 13-3, seven-inning victory at Texas State on Sunday to take the rubber match at Bobcat Ballpark.

The series win is the seventh of the season and fourth in Sun Belt Conference play for the Ragin’ Cajuns. They improved to 23-15 overall and 10-7 in league play.

“I felt whoever got the first lick today was going to win the game,” coach Tony Robichaux said. “We went out and made the first punch and were able to come away with the win. With this weather, the ball was jumping, and our hitters like to hit when the conditions were like they were.”

The Cajuns outhit the Bobcats 12-7. Stefan Trosclair was 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs. He had three home runs and eight RBIs in the series and leads the squad with nine homers on the year. Kyle Clement and Dylan Butler also homered for the Cajuns.

Freshman right-hander Wyatt Marks had a strong start, limiting Texas State (18-20-1, 10-8) to two runs and five hits to improve to 4-0. Marks matched a season high with 11 strikeouts.

Texas State’s Jeremy Hallonquist (4-1) gave up eight runs (seven earned) and nine hits in four innings.

Clement gave the Cajuns a 1-0 lead in the first when he sent a 1-0 pitch from Hallonquist well over the fence in right for his third homer.

The Ragin’ Cajuns posted a three-run inning in the fourth on a pair of home runs. Trosclair launched a solo homer to left on the first pitch he saw from Hallonquist to start the fourth. After a double by Tyler Girouard, Butler crushed a two-run homer to center to make it 4-0. The home run was Butler’s sixth of the year.

In the fifth, the Cajuns surged for six runs on four hits and two Texas State errors. A three-run homer by Trosclair highlighted the scoring.

The Cajuns tacked on three more runs in the sixth. Third baseman Evan Powell was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Cajuns an 11-run lead. They scored two more runs on an error by Bobcats shortstop Luke Sherley.

Texas State got on the board in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double by Colby Targun and a two-run homer by David Paiz.

The Cajuns visit Southeastern at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then host Southern at 6 p.m. Wednesday before returning to Sun Belt play with a three-game home set against UT-Arlington from Friday through Sunday.
