LAFAYETTE — The Louisiana-Lafayette football team’s 2015 nonconference schedule has been finalized with the addition of Northwestern State.
The school has not officially announced the matchup, but a source close to the program confirmed that the Demons would fill out the Cajuns’ nonconference slate with a matchup set for Sept. 12 at Cajun Field.
The Cajuns haven’t played Northwestern State since 2005, but the series history goes all the way back to 1909. The Cajuns have won 37 of the 75 meetings between the teams, with three ties.
The teams will face each other on the second weekend of the season, with Northwestern State serving as the Cajuns’ home opener. The Cajuns open the 2015 season Sept. 5 at Kentucky, while the Demons open with a Thursday night game against Southland Conference opponent Southeastern.
The Cajuns also will play nonconference games at home against Akron and at Louisiana Tech. Their nonconference slate is already set for 2016, with home games against Boise State and McNeese State followed by games at Tulane and Georgia.
New Cajuns linebackers coach Mike Lucas was Northwestern State’s defensive coordinator last season.
