TROY, Ala. — Shawn Long posted career-highs with 29 points and 20 rebounds and added five blocks to become Louisiana-Lafayette’s all-time leader in blocked shots, and the Ragin’ Cajuns rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to claim a 73-63 win over Troy in a Sun Belt Conference game on Thursday at Trojan Arena.

Tiremone Williams scored a career-high 10 points and Steven Wronkoski added 10 as Louisiana (15-11, 11-6 SBC) outscored Troy (9-19, 4-13 SBC), 46-24, in the second half. UL-Lafayette, which trailed 39-27 at halftime, held the Trojans to 7-for-34 aim (20.6 percent) from the floor in the second half while going 14-for-24 (58.3 percent).

“We did a really good job, as a group, in the second half,” Cajuns coach Bob Marlin said. “Tiremone Williams really stepped up, made some big passes as well as big buckets for us. He did everything that we asked him to do, including guarding (Troy’s) Wesley Person on the other, who’s a pretty good player.”

The Cajuns opened the second half with a 7-0 run as Williams scored on a layup, Wronkoski added a three-point play and Long scored to cut the Troy lead to 39-34 with 17:35 remaining.

Troy took a 49-42 lead on a free throw by John Walton III with 11:48 remaining before the Ragin’ Cajuns used a 13-5 run to take their first lead since scoring the first six points of the game. Williams, who played a career-high 22 minutes in place of an injured Jay Wright, scored on a baseline jumper with 8:15 left to give the Cajuns the lead for good, 55-54.

Long, who scored 18 points in the second half, added five straight points for the Ragin’ Cajuns as he scored on a three-point play and added a reverse layup.

A pair of buckets by Person cut the lead to 66-63 with 2:31 remaining in the game, but Louisiana put the game away with seven free throws down the stretch.

Long, who recorded his 20th double-double of the season and 72nd of his career, passed former Ragin’ Cajuns standout Michael Southall as the school’s all-time leader in blocked shots with 260. The senior finished 10-for-21 from the floor and was 9-for-11 from the free throw line.

Person led Troy with 17 points with Jeremy Hollimon adding 11. The Trojans finished 23-for-69 (33.3 percent) from the floor and went 12-for-26 (46.2 percent) from the free throw line.

The Cajuns will return to action on Saturday against South Alabama in a 4:05 p.m. contest in Mobile, Ala.
